Campaign for girls
Objective 4: Outfit a Mobile STEM Lab Allocation Funds: $80,000
More STEM in more places.
Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington & Northern Idaho serves a broad and diverse geography that includes a mix of urban, suburban, and rural populations. While these communities all face unique challenges, they share one thing in common: the need to prepare their youth for the jobs of tomorrow.
While the benefits of living in a rural community are plenty, there does exist a STEM gap between urban/suburban.
Almost half of students enrolled in rural schools live in moderate to extreme poverty.
These students are often geographically isolated, frequently lacking access to the internet.
College enrollment for rural students is 27% lower than for any other locale.
Schools in rural areas often find it difficult to hire and retain teachers particularly in STEM subjects.
Making sure that all girls who want to participate in STEM have the opportunity for quality programming and access to STEM equipment is at the core of our mission and vision.
Our Mobile STEM Lab will be outfitted with state-of-the-art STEM kits and equipment that will allow girls in areas where STEM programs for girls are lacking, the opportunity to do STEM.
Help us make STEM available to ALL by supporting this campaign objective.
